YMCA Church and Community Partnerships

An old Church of Scotland building in Perth, St Andrew’s and St Stephen’s Church on Atholl Street, purchased by YMCA Tayside in 2000 has undergone an incredible conversion to be a 3 storey purpose built youth centre. This innovative space for young people with engaging facilities is due to open in the next few months.

YMCA Tayside have a fantastic reputation, of running high quality professional youth work in our area. Outwith their own incredible building they are partnering with local churches who want to invest in young people by bringing in The YMCA’s skills and resources.

According to Life and Work ‘The partnership involves the YMCA matching a youth worker with the church. Working 16 hours a week, they will set up a junior youth club for P6 and 7 children (aged about 10-12), and later a drop-in for high school age children. The charity oversees and manages the worker, and helps the church source funding; while the church provides volunteers to help run the groups.’

I recently met with Franny McGrath, Head of Development at YMCA Tayside to find out more about the work YMCA Tayside are doing across seven churches in our presbytery.
